VICTORY skipper Kevin Muscat is in doubt for the grand final rematch on Friday after he aggravated his knee injury in training.
Victory Coach Ernie Merrick has named an extended 17-man squad for the Round 8 fixture after Muscat received a knock to his already injured knee yesterday.
“We'll have to see how he pulls up, but the initial impression from the physio is he probably won't be available for the Adelaide game,” Merrick said.
Muscat's injury has meant a recall for Ljubo Milicevic who is set to make his own return from a knee injury.
Daniel Vasilevski and Evan Berger have also been promoted as Victory looks to continue its ten match unbeaten streak, spanning 266 days in A-League competition.
Merrick said he wasn't worried about Milicevic's fitness, who has been out of action since damaging knee ligaments in Round 1 against Wellington Phoenix at Westpac Stadium.
"Training was very intense and very high quality, so I have no problems about Ljubo being in the squad," Merrick added.
Victory faces another test of depth against United with regular starters Grant Brebner (suspended), Daniel Piorkowski (shoulder) and Leigh Broxham (thigh) all out of action.
It was a similar situation last time these sides met in Round 3 as Victory recorded a 1-1 draw without Milicevic, Pantelidis, Broxham, Joseph Keenan and Archie Thompson at Hindmarsh Stadium.
Victory has faced its South Australian rivals ten times – more than any other club – in Hyundai A-League competition with the overall standings currently balanced at four wins and two draws each.
