Sunshine club president Darren Farrugia described the Melbourne Victory legend’s arrival as a PR coup for the club which plays one division below the VPL.

“The media has been huge. We’ve been in the Herald Sun and local papers. And at our last club meeting it was packed to the rafters,” he told au.fourfourtwo.com.

Muscat, 37, currently an assistant coach at Victory, retired from the game after the club’s 2011 ACL campaign.

However, he began his career at George Cross as a 16-year-old

Muscat, capped 51 times for the Socceroos, went on to enjoy a stellar career in the NSL and overseas before returning to play six seasons in the A-League with his hometown club Victory.

It’s expected that Muscat will play Sunshine’s three Sunday home games in August and possibly one game in September.

The club is expecting a crowd of at least 1000 for the August 7 match at Chaplin reserve in Sunshine.
