Central Coast Mariners boss Lawrie McKinna told au.fourfourtwo.com that Nash, currently playing for APIA Leichhardt in the NSW Premier League, was very much on his radar.

Nash is well known to Mariners goalkeeping coach John Crawley and McKinna has already cast his eye over the custodian.

Nothing has been decided yet and Juventus keeper Jess VanStrattan also remains in the frame.

However, Nash looks to be in pole position to step in once Vukovic is forced into the stands.

The Mariners announced yesterday that they were drawing a line under attempts to overturn Vukovic's Beijing ban and the decision means McKinna can deal with definites rather than maybes.

He said: "As I understand it now, Danny is free to play in the Pre-Season Cup, can play in the first two A-League games but then misses the next five after that.

"So it means I have to look at the goalkeeping situation. Young Andrew Redmayne has done well but he has Under 20 commitments and so we're looking at options for the time Danny is out.

"We had the Bosnich thing, Jess VanStrattan but yes, Matthew Nash is definitely on the radar.

"We spoken to his agent to make him aware of the siatuation and that there could be some interest.

"John Crawley knows Nash and we've had him up here for some training sessions and he's done very well.

"He had a game for Sydney FC last year (a 0-0 draw against Perth Glory) and did well."

As for Vukovic, McKinna has no doubt that the youngster will put all the dramas of recent months behind him and enjoy a good season.

He said: "Over this last four weeks or so Danny has been outstanding. We're just looking forward to having him back out there on the pitch."
