This week marks the final phase in the two-year process of Futsal ACT's incorporation into Capital Football, the governing body in the ACT.
The move reflects FFA's aims to integrate all aspects of football, including indoor football, under the one entity and follows similar changes in NSW, Victoria and Western Australia.
“Integration into Capital Football will allow us to exploit a lot of the natural synergies we have with outdoor football, including development, referees and high performance," said Capital Football, Futsal General Manager, Michael Edwards
"Futsal has grown dramatically over the last couple of years, both domestically and internationally, and we believe that the unification of both indoor and outdoor football will allow us to take the sport to the next level in the ACT.”
Capital Football CEO Heather Reid added: “We are delighted that the whole football family comprising over 16,000 players is under the one umbrella. This has taken two years to achieve and we look forward to continued growth and unity for our sport.”
Capital Football – Futsal will take over the functions previously conducted by Futsal ACT, including the management of all competitions starting with the Junior and Senior Winter leagues that kick off on April 22.
It will also continue to run ACT representative and development programs and events such as the National Futsal Championships, with the ACT already being confirmed as the host of the 2008 tournament.
