AGEING heroes of yesterday will not feature on Miron Bleiberg's shopping list as he gears up to assemble Gold Coast United's inaugural A-League squad in the coming weeks and months.
Bleiberg will head to both South America and England on a recruitment drive and while Gold Coast promise to add plenty of fizz and glamour to the A-League, there won't be 'names' for the sake of it.
If and when United recruit a marquee player, it will be someone who can bring something to the team, not a fading talent simply to help put bums on seats.
Bleiberg, who will head off on his recruiting trip in December, told www.goldcoast.com.au: "I don't want somebody who has won three World Cups but is over the hill."
Mark Bosnich is among those who have already been linked with the latest addition to the A-League.
Bleiberg's English trip is likely to focus on potential targets currently playing in the second tier (Championship) level.
On the marquee issue, Gold Coast chief executive Clive Mensink said: "It's a matter of getting the right man for the right reasons."
