The team will in future wear white shirts for home games and red on the road.

"This is not new. I've been thinking about it since I took over," said Sanchez.

"In my opinion, our green is confusing with the pitch, as grass is green.

"It looks like there are less players on the field."

In the last international friendly against Brazil in Boston, Sanchez was accused by the media of having abandoned the green shirt for white because white is the colour of his former club Real Madrid, but the coach insists the change has been made purely for football reasons.

"I've been thinking about this problem of colours since I was a player. It's my experience. I'm not saying this because I am a Real Madrid fan.

"The fact is that I like white. It's a colour our flag has and Real wear just by coincidence.

"With the colour change, I think we'll have the impression of having 12 or 13 players on the field."
