Verbeek's approach is seen as refreshing by some but others seem less comfortable with his no-frills assessments of domestic football in Australia.

Coyne has no issue with Verbeek's approach and points to the Dutch habit of telling it how it is rather than dressing something up.

He told perthnow: "No one likes criticism, but I think it's honest criticism.

"I think he's trying to be as honest as possible, which is a very Dutch way - they don't beat around the bush.

"I still think he believes that the players are good enough to do the job, otherwise I don't think he'd pick any of them for any competition.

"What he wants is for people to realise that there's some improvement still to go in certain areas."

The coach has found himself facing calls to add overseas players to his squad for the next Asian Cup qualifier against Oman in November.

As for Coyne, he has been linked with a temporary switch to the K-League ahead of A-League season five.
