As Heart re-signed four younger players on one and two year deals, Sidwell said the main motivation in developing a youthful squad was to improve the club’s playing stocks rather than having one eye on lucrative future transfers.

He conceded the consequences of developing good younger talent often results in overseas interest, but sidestepped suggestions the club were about to become a selling club for foreign buyers.

“We don’t budget for transfer fees but we do understand these boys have aspirations over and above just ourselves," he said.

“They won’t get to the goal they need unless they achieve the goal within. This club is about taking the club, the community and these boys into the future.

“We understand they have longer term hopes of being in Europe or other places and I don’t think it’d be fair of us as a club to ever try and harness those sorts of aspirations.”

Sidwell added there were no buyout clauses in the contracts of the four re-signed players but clearly wasn’t ready to discuss any specific details.

“There’s nothing there which will stop or start any particular thing," he said.

Deals for Heart’s Aziz Behich, Brendan Hamill (two year extensions) and Jason Hoffman and Eli Bablj (one year each) tie them to the club until 2013/14.

The club stressed they are building a younger culture with the players announced today a sign of where they’re headed in terms of player recruitment.

Sidwell added: “There’s some guile that comes from experience but vim that comes from youth.”
