JOEL Griffiths will not be risked for Newcastle Jets next A-League outing unless Gary van Egmond is convinced the new marquee man is 100 per cent fit.
A hamstring tear has temporarily halted the striker's season but he is hoping to be back for the Jets home clash with Melbourne Victory on October 18.
While he is eager to be back for that match, he won't be stepping back on to the pitch unless his coach is convinced there is no risk of further damage.
Van Egmond told The Herald: "Joel would be a 50-50 chance. If he cannot train two or three days prior to Melbourne, we will not take the risk."
Meanwhile, the club looks unlikely to secure Mark Milligan's services for the remainder of this A-League campaign but the Olyroo skipper might be an option for the Asian Champions League in March - if he is available at that stage.
Van Egmond has also confirmed that Marko Jesic is putting himself in the frame to be the injury replacement player for Jason Hoffman.
