CELLAR dwellers Gold Coast United will not be turned into a travelling road show to combat poor home support according to the club's owner Clive Palmer.
A report in The Sunday Mail said the club, which has less than 400 members and struggles to attract 4000 to Skilled Park, could play 'home' games in Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton as well as the Gold Coast.
Under the proposal the club would be rebadged as Queensland United. While the FFA is said to be desperate to breathe new life into the Gold Coast franchise Palmer is cold on the idea of touring the State.
"I wouldn't say all is good on the Gold Coast - there are problems at every club," Palmer said. "But we've never had any intention of doing anything but Gold Coast United."
Palmer still has two years on this A-League licence. The Sunday Mail reports that United representatives will meet with the FFA in the next fortnight to discuss a range of issues including future home fixtures.
