THE Olyroos failed to book a ticket to the 2012 London Olympic Games so it will be left to the Aussie officials to represent the nation in the world's most popular sport.
Five Australian referees have been chosen to officiate at the much-anticipated football tournament to be held throughout July and August.
Sarah Ho, Allyson Flynn, Ben Williams, Matthew Cream and Hakan Anaz were slected by a FIFA panel to serve as part of a 15 strong delegation of AFC referees.
FFA Director of Referees Mark Shield praised the referees who will leave for London in July to join up with the rest of the officiating contingent.
“This is a fantastic achievement and FFA is proud to have five outstanding match officials selected for this prestigious competition,” Shield told the official FFA website.
“These five appointments are a reflection of the professionalism and ability of Australian referees acknowledged on the world stage.”
Ben Williams is set to officiate at his first major FIFA tournament while Sarah Ho will be making her second Olympic Games appearance as an assistant referee.
