Mensink told au.fourfourtwo.com this morning that he'd had a brief chat with the billionaire this morning and said he was unmoved by the speculation.

The speculation prompted FFA CEO to call a hastily arranged press conference in Sydney to answer questions about the club's future after it was reported overnight they would not continue in the A-League.

But it appears to be water off a duck's back for Palmer - one of the richest men in the country but who's been criticised for his management style in setting up Gold Coast.

"He said 'don't worry, move on'" Mensink told au.fourfourtwo.com today.

When quizzed on Palmer's future Mensink added:  "What's long-term?" but added he expected to see Palmer continue.

However Mensink admitted the cashed up owner wasn't about to throw money away to help prop up his ailing club.

"Clive didn't make his money by losing it. Being prudent makes commercial sense. Look all A-League clubs are losing money"

Mensink admitted the stadium deal at Skilled Park was still an issue noting that all Queensland sporting codes sffer in that way but said the players would be back in training in a  few weeks.

And he expected captain and marquee Jason Culina to be still in a yellow shirt next season. "From my point of view he'll be there."

Mensink said that he was "surprised" by media reports that United was about to consigned to the A-League dustbin.

"Yes, I was surprised. But these things happen. We're working towards next season," he added.
