PERTH Glory have missed out on the chance to host LA Galaxy in a high-profile friendly in December.
Glory were bidding to bring an LA Galaxy side featuring David Beckham and Robbie Keane to Perth for the first time as part of a deal that would see the MLS club play two matches in Australia.
However, Galaxy have opted to just play one match in Australia against Melbourne Victory on December 6.
"Naturally we are disappointed to miss out on the chance to bring the Galaxy and David Beckham to Perth," said Glory chief executive Paul Kelly.
"The reaction from the fans and the public was extremely positive and we will continue to try and bring the best football clubs to Perth.
"Our focus is now and has always has been firmly on the start of the Hyundai A-League season."
Glory had felt they were a good chance of luring Galaxy to Perth as the trip to Australia was being organised by the same promoter that was involved in Perth's profitable friendly clash with Celtic last June.
However, while the news about Galaxy is disappointing, there has also been some good news on the Glory front as Ian Ferguson's new-look squad continues to impress during the pre-season.
On Saturday, the side showed its class by destroying WA All Flags major semi-finalist Balcatta 6-1.
Midfielder Liam Miller starred in the centre of the park, while recently signed striker Billy Mehmet impressed by scoring a double, just four days after being announced as part of the squad.
Mehmet produced the goods in the absence of marquee signing Shane Smeltz, who was rested from this match after suffering a minor grain strain.
Glory will now play the United Arab Emirates Under-23 side on Tuesday night before flying to New South Wales for pre-season clashes with Sydney FC and Central Coast Mariners.
The clash with the Sky Blues on September 24 will see Sydney field Qantas Socceroo Brett Emerton for the first time.
