PERTH Glory have moved quickly to replenish their squad after last week's exodus with the signing of ex-Gold Coast United livewire Chris Harold and former Heart flier Adrian Zahra.
As revealed by au.fourfourtwo.com last month Perth-born Harold, 19, has signed a two-year contract, while Zahra, 21, is believed to be on a one year deal.
“We identified that we needed to inject some youth and speed into our squad and both players fit the bill,” Perth Glory coach Ian Ferguson said.
“Chris Harold is a young West Australian who can play a variety of positions in midfield and out wide. We are delighted to have him on board.
“It’s also great to add Adrian. We watched quite a lot of him this season as he recovered from a serious knee injury.
“In one of the games he actually scored against our Youth team and all the reports are very positive."
Right winger Zahra played 19 A-League games until he suffered a season-killing knee injury that ruled him out of the senior squad all year, although he was on the comeback trail through the youth league.
He still had a year left on his Heart deal but was released by the club to let him join Glory.
“I am delighted to sign with Perth Glory and really want to thank Ian Ferguson for the opportunity,” Zahra said.
“Perth had a great season and I’m looking forward to starting a new chapter.”
Harold will arrive in Perth in June after he completes his semester at university where he is currently studying law-commerce.
“I am really excited to prove myself at a club that made it all the way through to the Grand Final and got so close to winning the Championship,” Harold said.
“Moving back to Perth is a fresh start and I’m keen to try and make my mark.
Melbourne Heart Chief Executive Officer Scott Munn paid tribute to Zahra well as he moved across the Nullarbor.
“Adrian is one of the great success stories of our Club, a Victorian Premier League graduate (from Melbourne Knights) who successfully made the transition to Hyundai A-League football with ease,” Munn said.
“In successfully navigating his way through a difficult period of his career, Adrian has demonstrated immense character and deserves an opportunity to press his claims for first team football.
“Moving to a team such as Perth Glory will offer Adrian a chance to further his football development and we wish him well for the future.”
