PERTH Glory Owner Tony Sage today unveiled two new signings and the club’s new playing strip which for the first time in club history will feature vertical stripes.
The striking design on the front of the playing shirt was selected to coincide the club's new logo and a revitalised squad for a full frontal assault on the A-League next season.
Perth Glory's prominent purple colour has been retained with a solid block on the back of the shirt and the sleeves while the front will feature a mix of purple and white stripes to create an impressive looking shirt.
"We have set out to revitalise the club from top to tail and have scored plenty goals with our new look both on and off the pitch," Sage said.
"The playing shirt is something different from what we've ever had before and that was a deliberate decision to reinforce the new attitude and desire of the club going forward.
"The comments we've already received from Reebok and those that have had a sneak peek at the shirt have been extremely positive."
Football Federation Australia has adopted a home and clash strip policy which means Perth Glory will wear the striped ‘home' shirt during matches at Members Equity Stadium and on road trips where appropriate.
The new look has received the thumbs up from the players with Glory defender Jamie Harnwell keen to give the new look style a run on the pitch.
"I think it's a great new design, it looks smart and adds to the renewed feeling that we all have at the club," Harwell said.
The full playing kit will feature the new striped shirt, purple shorts and white socks.
- Perth Glory also added significant experience to their back four after completing the signing of former English Premier League defender Andy Todd on a one year deal. Todd brings a hard edge and wealth of playing knowledge to Western Australia after plying his trade in England for more than 15 years including stints with Bolton, Charlton, Blackburn and most recently Derby County.
Todd, wife Dawn and one of his three children, Finley (7 months), have spent the past week in Perth to view Glory's set-up and acquaint themselves with the city.
Perth Glory also used the time to put the 34 year old also through a rigorous set of physical and medical tests which he passed with flying colours and both parties signed on the dotted line this afternoon.
"I'm delighted to be joining the club for next season," Todd said. "It's a big move but one that I'm looking forward to. We've enjoyed the city and I think it presents a great lifestyle move as well as an exciting football challenge."
- Glory also confirmed they have added Branko Jelic to their attack. The Serbian striker recently agreed to a mutual termination with his Bundesliga club FC Energie Cottbus after which Perth was able to discuss the possibility of a move to WA.
"Branko was player that we understood to be interested in coming to Australia but he was contracted so we didn't think there was much hope of bringing him out here this season," Mitchell said. "However things can change quickly in football and after he became available we tabled an offer and explained what we've set out to do at the club and to our delight he was very keen to be part of that."
The 32 year old has played for Serbian powerhouse side Red Star Belgrade and has experience in Asia where he claimed the Golden Boot award in the Chinese Super League with 21 goals for Beijing Guoan in 2005.
