EXCLUSIVE: Sasho Petrovski is hungry to prove Australia's domestic league is the equal of its cash-soaked counterparts in Asia.
Newcastle Jets begin their Asian Champions League adventure in China this evening against Beijing Guoan.
Despite the debate about the strengths and weaknesses of different competitions, Petrovski doesn't believe Australia should have any inferiority complex when it comes to its football.
"I know there is a lot of talk that they (Asia) are way ahead of us," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.
The Jets striker doesn't take that view and feels Australia can be proud of the progress made in the last few years.
Adelaide United's progress to last year's ACL grand final was another big step and Petrovski is keen for the A-League to continue earning praise and respect.
He added : "On the pitch is where we need to get results and that's where people are going to judge us."
Petrovski just wants to hear the referee's whistle and to get cracking. "I can't wait," he said.
