Victory midfielder Kristian Sarkies has said if he doesn’t play regularly next season he may ditch the champions in favour of regular football elsewhere.
“That’s the main thing, game time,” he told SEN radio’s Four Diegos on Saturday night. “Money’s not the issue. If I was offered $200,000 or a million it wouldn’t make any difference.
“I’ve gotta think about a few things. It’s a critical time in my career and at my age, that’s all I really want to do. I just want to play.”
Sarkies has yet to sign a new contract with Victory and has been linked in the press to Perth Glory and Adelaide United.
When quizzed on whether he wanted to stay with Victory next season, Sarkies, 20, was non-committal. “That’s a good question. At the moment I’m just concentrating on the Olyroos and the Olympics but when I get back to Melbourne, I’ll discuss things with my manager and the people around me.”
He did confirm however that he would like to stay in the A-League for the time being before a potential move overseas. “I’d prefer to stay in Australia and build up some match fitness and confidence before going overseas.”
However, Sarkies dismissed rumours of a move to Championship strugglers Leeds United. “Yeah, I heard about those Leeds rumours,” he laughed.
The exciting attacking midfielder is currently in camp with the Olyroos in Adelaide ahead of the side’s vital Olympic 2008 qualifier against Saudi Arabia this Wednesday night at Hindmarsh stadium.
