After China lost 3-0 in Melbourne on Wednesday, they looked lively at the start after opening the scoring in the seventh minute, however the Matildas recovered to a 3-1 lead at half-time and not without drama though, as play was suspended for 30 minutes due to lightning concerns on the brink of half-time.

Starting XI

Lydia Williams - 9

How would you feel if you were Mackenzie Arnold and Eliza Campbell? The first-choice keeper will take the plaudits after having to deal with more shots than what was seen in the first fixture. The City goalie pulled off a number of saves to keep the Chinese to just one goal.

Elise Kellond-Knight - 7

Returned to captain the side and missed out on the first fixture only arriving from Germany on Tuesday. The utility looked solid at left-back, gave away a ball in the second half which almost led to a goal however.

Laura Alleway - 6

The centre-back has struggled to break into Alen Stajcic’s team and re-joined Melbourne Victory for her second stint to get her confidence back. She got the chance in Geelong and while her former City teammate Lydia Williams had some work to do. Defenders need to do a better job.
