GOLD Coast forward Joel Porter says it's important United produce a good performance in Sunday's free admission home game against Central Coast in order to keep fans coming back for more.
It has been reported more than 15,000 tickets have been snapped up for Sunday's match at Skilled Park, with United management even talking about the prospect of a sell-out.
Whether that happens remains to be seen, but Porter told the Gold Coast Bulletin however many turn out on Sunday it is important the side don't disappoint them.
"It's a big one. It looks like we will have a fantastic crowd and the atmosphere should be buzzing and we don't want to disappoint all those fans coming out for a taste," he said.
The 32-year-old former Socceroo added: "Part of the reason you play and become a professional sportsperson is so you can get out in front of big crowds with a fantastic atmosphere.
"We played in front of 8000 Newcastle supporters (in Wednesday's 2-0 loss) and they were great for them.
"Those fans were their 12th man. It helped them along and when they got the goal their crowd pushed them over the line for the second.
"If we can get (more than) 20,000 to Skilled, in a fantastic stadium that's close to the field and really loud, the supporters can get behind us and help us over the line."
Porter said the midweek loss in Newcastle was disappointing but hoped the team could learn from the defeat and bounce back for the Mariners game.
"We didn't show up to the race and Newcastle took full advantage," he said.
"(Newcastle) worked harder and tactically they were better than us and when you do that you generally win games nine out of 10 times.
"But you learn from it and we're looking forward to the game on Sunday."
