JOEL Porter is ready to resume duties with Gold Coast United and hopes to be racing on to a killer pass or two from Charlie Miller against Perth Glory on Sunday.
The former Socceroo forward has missed the last two matches with a knee injury, but having completed a full week of training is now ready to resume his strike partnership with Shane Smeltz against Glory on Sunday.
"Having time off with injury wasn't ideal for me, but it's all part and parcel of football and it's great to be back in full training as well as having my name back in the mix for a starting spot," Porter said.
"It's one of those injuries where you don't know what is going to happen with it until you play a game, so I sat out last week as a precaution. This week in training the knee has felt really good and I'm back to 100 per cent now."
Just as Smeltz benefited from the vision and guile of new recruit Charlie Miller last weekend, Porter is hoping to be a recipient of one of the Scot's trademark defence-splitting through balls as United look to set themselves up for a good run of results.
With the next four games all at home, including the Boxing Day derby against Brisbane Roar, Porter says it's time for Gold Coast to show their title credentials.
"Charlie can make something out of nothing; he's that sort of player, someone who has proven quality," the 30-year-old said.
"He's a great acquisition for the club and the team. I'll be making a few runs as I always try to do, so hopefully he can pick me out with one or two passes.
"The next four home games are very important to us. If we can pick up points in all of them then it will put us in a nice position going into the final rounds.
"We have to work well as a team to stop conceding goals and that's what we're working on at the moment. We know we can always score a goal or two, so we just have to make ourselves that little bit harder to beat."
Gold Coast head coach, Miron Bleiberg, knows a good result against Dave Mitchell's men is critical for his side's title aspirations, but says Perth's recent inconsistency makes it difficult to know what to expect from a team that is laden with talent.
"Perth are a good side but they have been a bit up and down like everyone else in the competition. When they have all their best players available they are a very though team to beat," Bleiberg said.
"We want to make sure that we stay in the top three and push for a higher place on the ladder, so it is naturally important that we do well against Perth.
"The Hyundai A-League ladder fluctuates all the time so anyone who can put together a run of good results can climb rapidly."
Gold Coast's Ivorian left-back, Adama Traore, has been included in Bleiberg's squad after missing two months with a knee injury, but the United boss hinted that he may give the youngster another stint in the youth side to sharpen his match fitness ahead of the Boxing Day clash with Brisbane at Skilled Park.
"Adama played an hour with the Youth Team last week. He was excellent and scored a goal, but we may give him another run in the youth side this weekend to make sure he has ninety minutes under his belt," Bleiberg added.
"As much as you can be sure, he will be fully ready to return for the Boxing Day game against Brisbane Roar."
