Qu’s 2006/07 season was blighted by a serious ankle injury and it saw him play just six matches during that campaign.

With seven goals, Qu was equal top goal scorer for United in the first A-League season; which also saw him notch up six goal assists.

It is believed Qu is seeking to become a permanent resident of Australia and that he will travel with his former team mates to China in May when the Reds take on Shandong Luneng as an ambassador for South Australia.

“We part ways on good terms and wish him well for the future,” said Adelaide United FC Chief Executive Michael Petrillo.

In other Adelaide United news, it has been confirmed that Jason Spagnuolo’s quad injury has failed to fully recover after he reported soreness following his side’s 2-2 draw with Seongnam Ilhwa.

Spagnuolo was a 74th minute substitute and re-injured his left quad after completing the rest of the match.

“I felt it the first time I went to sprint,” he said. “That seemed to aggravate it and it slowly got worse. I was itching to get out there. Being out for so long I just wanted to get out there and play and have some fun but obviously it didn’t got according to plan.”

Adelaide United Fitness and conditioning coach Nik Hagicostas said scans will be used to investigate the seriousness of the problem and Spagnuolo’s subsequent return could not be confirmed until then.

“His quad wasn’t 100 per cent before the game, however he had been in full training for six weeks and had no problems,” Hagicostas said.

“However, the extra intensity of the game showed his quad wasn’t ready for that kind of stress.”
