EXCLUSIVE: Jacob Burns has been hailed as the A-League's top midfield 'ratter' by a former Leeds United colleague who would love to see the Perth Glory skipper on the Socceroos plane to South Africa.
Burns is desperately looking for a move to boost his chances of being part of Pim Verbeek's squad but he should have done his cause no harm with a double blast in front of the watching Socceroos coach at Hindmarsh Stadium last night.
The midfielder was a member of the same Leeds United squad as Michael Bridges during the pre-meltdown era at Elland Road.
Bridges, now with Newcastle Jets, was delighted to see Burns hitting the goal trail last night but then he has been impressed with him throughout the season.
"It's great for Burnsy," Bridges told au.fourfourtwo.com today. "In my opinion he's what we'd call in England a midfield 'ratter' or a terrier. "He is one of the best when it comes to passing and tackling.
"Burnsy is someone you know you're going to get 150 per cent from."
With Verbeek in the stands at Hindmarsh, Bridges hopes Burns' display will have given the Dutchman food for thought after his appearance in the 2-2 draw with Kuwait.
But Bridges added: "To be honest, I was very surprised that Burnsy wasn't more involved for the recent Socceroos game."
