Madrid have been linked with a move for the Portuguese international since last summer, but Manchester United are keen to keep hold of the 22-year-old and are currently in negotiations to extend his contract until 2012.

Madrid president Calderon has confirmed he is an admirer of the quicksilver winger, but will not be breaking the bank to bring either him or AC Milan ace Kaka - another reported target of Madrid's - to the Bernabeu

"We like Cristiano, but right now he is a Manchester United player. But if the English team want to sell him, we would be first in line for him," Calderon told Spanish television station Antena 3.

"But we will not pay crazy money. A footballer is not worth 80million euros ($140 million)."
