EXCLUSIVE: Queensland Roar goalkeeper Liam Reddy has revealed that Frank Farina was the overwhelming factor in his decision to pen a new three-year deal at Suncorp Stadium.
Reddy put pen to paper during the closed season, excited at the prospect of continuing his career under Farina.
Now the coach himself has signed a new deal at Roar and Reddy believes it is tremendous news for the club.
He told au.fourfourtwo.com: "It's brilliant. I've just re-signed for three years and the major reason for that was that I enjoyed playing under Frank.
"He's a great coach. It's good for the club and good for the playing group because he's definitely getting the best out of us."
With contract matters resolved both Reddy and Farina are preparing for Roar's A-League opener against Wellington Phoenix.
Reddy feels his team can push on from last year's near miss due to added goal power. He expects the challenge to be tough though and points to a competition that improves with each year.
The Roar keeper said: "I think the league is getting stronger and stronger every year.
"There's a few good foreigners come in, we've two in Sergio and Charlie Miller. They'll definitely add to our time and also to the competition itself.
"As a team I think we've got more goals in us. There's the two boys I've mentioned, we've seen Reinaldo come back and the young boy Tim Smits has been playing well.
"If those boys all fire I think that's hopefully why we can go on this year."
Wellington provide the first test for the new-look Roar and Reddy says his team will need to be at their sharpest.
He said: "I think Phoenix were very unfortunate to finish last. I don't think they'll end up there this time. They're a year wiser and they've brought in quality signings with the likes of Andrew Durante, Jon McKain, Adam Kwasnik and Leo Bertos.
"They will be a tough ask first up and we're going to have to be at our best.
"While Shane Smeltz and Vaughan Coveny are a goal threat the guys at the back like Durante and McKain are also a threat from set pieces. We have to be alert to that."
