BRAZILIAN striker Reinaldo is excited at returning to Queensland Roar and tackling some unfinished business this season.
The big striker arrived back at the club today and jumped straight into training after sensationally signing a three-year contract last week.
After knocking back offers from clubs in the United States and the Hyundai A-League, the Brazilian target man said it was his love for the club that lead him back to the Roar.
“I always said to Frank Farina I would never go back to Australia if it’s not to Queensland Roar,” Reinaldo said through an interpreter.
“I have a lot of friends here in Brisbane and Queensland Roar is a club that is in my heart.
“I even want one day to be the CEO of the club,” he laughed.
The club’s all-time top scorer revealed he regretted not taking the advice of captain Craig Moore, who advised him to think carefully before his ill-fated move to Busan I’Park.
However, he couldn’t hide his delight at returning to the club he signed for in 2005 and was looking forward to challenging for the A-League title and a place in the Asian Champions League.
“We got so close last year and the whole squad has some unfinished business,” he said.
“The fans definitely deserve a much better performance from us – achieving something higher – because they’re always there. They’re always supporting Queensland Roar.”
After finding some blistering form in the second half of last season, Reinaldo said he was hoping to pick up where he left off.
“I’ll be definitely trying my best to be the same Reinaldo as the end of last season – trying to score regularly, working hard and making the fans happy because I also love (the fans).”
However, he said he didn’t expect to waltz into the starting team, now boasting the attacking prowess of new signings Sergio van Dijk and Tim Smits.
“I know Tim Smits and Sergio have been doing quite well so I’m coming to add to the squad,” he said. “I need to try to prove that I deserve a starting spot.”
Reinaldo and the rest of the team will be at the free Family Fun Day this Sunday at Roma St Parklands.
