NEWCASTLE Jets today announced the appointment of two former Socceroos and an All Whites coach as key onfield staff to support coach Branko Cullina and his squad.
“We are pleased to welcome to the coaching staff three Hunter residents; David Lowe, Marshall Soper, and Clint Gosling,” said Ken Edwards, Executive Chairman.
“Well known Hunter football identity and former Socceroo David Lowe will take up the position of head scout, Marshall Soper will be part time specialist skills coach, and Clint Gosling will join the team as full time goalkeeping coach.
"These appointments continue the Jets core objectives of re-engaging with the community whilst also putting the best people in to these positions.”
David Lowe’s position will involve identifying talent from throughout Newcastle, the Hunter and Northern NSW and Australia wide to hopefully filter through to the Jets youth and/or senior sides.
“I couldn’t think of anyone better qualified than David to take up this position. He has a wealth of knowledge and is well known at both the senior and grass roots level,” said Jets Coach Branko Culina.
Marshall Soper, a former Socceroo, takes up the new position of Specialist Skills Coach and will be imparting his knowledge and assisting our players with their attacking play. Marshall was a renowned goal scorer himself for many clubs in the old NSL as well as the national side.
While local legend, and current New Zealand national team goalkeeping coach Clint Gosling goes from part time to a full time position.
Culina added: “The appointment of these three very skilled ex professionals offers us knowledge, expertise and a fresh approach.”
