WITH his side now gathering momentum and looking to extend their three-game unbeaten run, Frank Farina is expected to name a largely unchanged line-up for the visit of Perth Glory to Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night.
Danny Tiatto returns after serving his one-match suspension for accumulated yellow cards and will take the place of midfield dynamo Matt McKay who misses the game with an ankle injury sustained at training earlier in the week.
The other good news for Roar is the inclusion of powerful forward Reinaldo who has fully recovered from the knee injury that threatened to sideline him this Saturday.
Skipper Craig Moore and defender Josh McCloughan both missed a training session each this week with a virus, but neither are in doubt for the Perth clash.
Farina has long insisted on flexibility with his team and while he has a relatively settled side he says his squad has the capability of adapting to the ebb and flow of any given match.
“We’re able to adapt and play two or three different formations; at the moment we’re playing with young Michael (Zullo) and Robbie (Kruse) in wide positions, but we could change that and go to two strikers if we want,” Farina said
He continued: “Things are reasonably settled at the moment. We’ll miss Matt McKay as he’s been a big influence for us this year, but those things will happen and you’ll get injuries as the season goes on. But things are looking good and I’m pretty pleased with everything.
“We’d like to keep the good run going, it’s been three games without a loss and we’re back home again. It’s always good to be at Suncorp Stadium and we’ll be going into the match with the idea of winning.
“It’ll be good to have Danny (Tiatto) back. He’s been out for two games this season and when he’s in the team he gives everyone a lift with his work-rate and his professionalism on the park.”
Young starlets Zullo and Kruse, whose reputations gather pace with each passing game, are fast becoming the major drawcards for Roar fans. Their influence on recent results has been more than evident with their willingness to take on defenders winning plaudits from fans and commentators alike.
The pair of crowd-pleasers have played together since their early teens and are still enjoying the same friendly rivalry as their professional careers begin to take shape.
Zullo said: “Krusey thinks his nickname now is ‘goal-a-game Kruse’ - but there’s no competition between us really – as long as one of us is scoring or the team is winning, that’s all that matters.
“We just try to offer something different to the squad with a bit more width and more speed on the flanks and luckily it’s been working. Our aim is to just get the ball at our feet and try and run at players to get into the box. We’ll both be looking to do that as much as possible tomorrow.”
Korean utility Hyuk-Su Seo is set to become the first ever Queensland Roar player to notch 50 Hyundai A-League appearances for the club tomorrow night and Perth’s Jamie Harnwell will reach the same landmark if selected.
