The FFA today revealed the club had 'accidentally' broken salary cap rules this season and had been fined, but only half the fee is payable and the rest is suspended for the remainder of this season.

If any other salary capissues arise, the club could be made to pay the other $7,500.

"The FFA is determined to enforce the integrity of the Player Contracting Regulations and will remain vigilant to ensure all Hyundai A-League clubs fully comply," said a statement today.

"In consideration of the non-deliberate nature of this breach and the transparency and co-operation provided by the club management throughout the audit process, the FFA Board has determined that Queensland Roar be fined $15,000 (ex GST), of which $7,500 (ex GST) will be payable now and the balance suspended for the remainder of the 2007/08 season.

"Should the club commit any further breach of the Player Contract Regulations during the 2007/08 season the remaining $7,500 (ex GST) will be automatically applied along with any other sanction as deemed suitable by the FFA Board."

Roar today admitted the breach but blamed it on a clerical error.

“We fully recognise that there was a technical breach of the regulations, however it was not deliberate and resulted from an internal administration error," said Queensland Roar FC Chief Executive, Lawrence Oudendyk.

“Throughout the process with FFA we were entirely transparent and co-operated completely.

“We have now implemented procedures to monitor our salary cap status on a weekly basis to eliminate the possibility of any future discrepancies.

“We support the principle of the salary cap one hundred per cent and believe it is crucial to ensuring an even competition.”
