FORMER Scottish international Charlie Miller has put pen to paper and signed a two-year contract with Queensland Roar.
After arriving for a trial a month ago, the 32-year-old attacking midfielder has impressed in pre-season matches and will look to add a creative element to the Roar attack this season.
Roar coach Frank Farina was delighted to finalise the deal.
“First and foremost Charlie’s a very good player,” Farina said at a press conference today.
“Apart from Charlie’s ability on the park I think his experience off it was the thing that attracted me and I’m just very happy that he’s agreed with terms and will play for the Roar for the next two years.”
Following the departure of Brazilian Marcinho in the off-season, Farina was confident the former Rangers star would link well between the midfield and the strikers.
“Something that we haven’t had in my time with the club is a genuine out-and-out playmaker who can create opportunities and it’s good to have that string to our bow now,” he said.
Despite the expectations, Miller said he was looking forward to the season.
“No pressure at all, I’m here to play football,” he said. “I’m 32 years old now, maybe when I was 18 I felt the pressure but definitely not (now).”
Having won a nine trophies with Rangers during his six years at the club, Miller said he was still hungry for more success.
“I spoke to Frank and it was great. He’s ambitious, he wants to win. I’m 32 and I still want to win myself. I like to win trophies and I think we’ve got a great bunch of boys here.”
A colourful character off the park, Miller insisted he was serious about the job ahead of the Roar.
“Hopefully I’ll enjoy my football and have a laugh on the field. But I’m here to be serious and win trophies – no doubt about it.”
Queensland Roar takes on Central Coast in the Pre-Season Cup on Sunday. The match at Perry Park kicks off at 3pm with tickets on sale at the gate.
