Farina admits to being frustrated at his side’s lack of a killer punch on Saturday night, but says talk of a season-long struggle for goals is ridiculous.

Roar have netted five times in their opening five games, a total shared by both Newcastle Jets and upcoming opponents Melbourne Victory.

Wellington Phoenix and Central Coast Mariners have six each, with Adelaide United leading the ‘charge’ on seven goals, despite remaining winless so far.

“It could be that this weekend against Melbourne we’ll make the odd alteration,” said Farina.

"They’ve had five draws so there’s every chance we’ll change our line-up depending on how we finish the week and what I want to do going into the game. But yes, there could be changes."

He continued: “We haven’t scored in our last two home games and that’s disappointing, but we’re up there with the rest of the teams.

“The highest goal-count is Adelaide on seven and we’re on five so if we’re struggling it just indicates that everyone else is struggling too, but at home you want to score and we haven’t so that’s disappointing.

“We should have more goals than anyone else and our shots on goal should be translating to that; that’s what we’re focusing on and we’re also trying to focus on keeping a clean sheet at the back.

"We need to make sure we’re defensively strong and if we can go to Melbourne and not concede a goal then we’ll definitely get something out of it.”

Big defender Sasa Ognenovski was thrown into the fray as a late attacking option on Saturday night and he joked today about the impact he almost made soon after coming on when he forced Clint Bolton into a smart save.

“I always fancied myself as a striker," he laughed. "But all defenders do don’t they? It’s exciting when a defender goes forward.

"I enjoy scoring goals, but I’d rather be in the centre of defence. It wasn’t planned, or at least Frank didn’t tell me anything about it until he said ‘go warm up, you’re going up front’."

He added: “I actually watched a replay and Clint Bolton pulled out a good save, I don’t think he even knew where the ball was, he just anticipated it and got his glove to it.

"A lot of the defenders in the league aren’t as big as me – Mark Rudan is probably the only one who’s the same size as me – so I’ll have the aerial domination there but I still prefer to be in defence.”
