Newcastle’s impressive start to the new A-league season continued with a 2-1 victory over a struggling Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.
Joe Caletti 6.5
Played well when in possession, but much like his midfield partner, Caletti was outnumbered in the centre of the field.
Eric Bautheac 6
The 30-year-old was substituted at half-time, after failing to make much of an impact on the game.
Brett Holman 7.5
Turned Brisbane’s possession into attack singlehandedly on some occasions, often by running the ball at the Newcastle defence. Much to his frustration, his teammates failed to convert his efforts.

Fahid Ben Khalfallah 7
The Tunisian was inconsistent throughout, sometimes linking well with Massimo Maccarone and sometimes wasting possession with inaccurate passes and crosses.
Massimo Maccarone 7.5
The Italian would have been disappointed not to have scored in the first half, after turning his defender. The 38-year-old later found the back of the net with a brilliant effort, which was eventually overturned by the VAR system for offside.
Subs:
Jack Hingert 6.5
Petros Skapetis 6
Nicholas D’Agostino (n/a)
