Newcastle’s impressive start to the new A-league season continued with a 2-1 victory over a struggling Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.
NEWCASTLE JETS
Jack Duncan 7
Without having to make any world-class saves, the Newcastle keeper would have kept a clean sheet if it wasn’t for Nigel Boogaard’s own goal. Just another day at the office for Duncan.
Ivan Vujica 8.5
Provided a cross of real quality to the back post, where Roy O’Donovan arrived for Newcastle’s first goal. The Croat continued to be a threat throughout the match and linked up well with Andrew Nabbout.
Nikolai Topor-Stanley 7
Was often one step ahead the Brisbane attack. The defender also looked composed on the ball and tried to turn defence into attack.

Nigel Boogaard 6
Clumsily turned the ball into his own net for Brisbane’s first goal and should have dealt better with the cross. Endured a close battle with Maccarone and the Italian often got the better of the Jets defender.
Daniel Georgievski 6.5
Took zero chances at right back and was consistent alongside his fellow defenders.
Steven Ugarkovic 7
A strong, well-composed performance from the 23-year-old. Rarely out of position and retained possession by breaking up Brisbane’s loose passes.
