John Aloisi had been expected to return to Australia to play with Adelaide United when his contract at Spanish club Alaves expires at the end of the season.

But the row over the sacking of his brother and former Reds’ skipper, Ross Aloisi, looked to have put an end to the family dream.

Now Farina has the former Portsmouth and Coventry City hitman in his sights.

"I don't think there are many bigger names at the moment that would draw as much attention as Johnny would," Farina told the Brisbane Courier-Mail.

"He's an ideal fit, not only in terms of playing ability but in his marketing ability."

Roar had been linked with English Premiership legend Andy Cole as a possible marquee signing, but the club are restricted by the number of overseas players they can enlist.

The club already has four foreigners on its books with Korean Hyuk-Su Seo, German Marcus Wedau, Brazilian Reinaldo and Scot Simon Lynch.

Bringing Aloisi to the club would allow Roar a star name without having to look overseas.

Farina has admitted they would still have to sign him as a marquee player though, as the A-League salary cap wouldn’t be able to cover his likely pay demands.

John said last week: “The drawcard for me coming back was to play with my brother, which has always been a dream.”
