Over 350 people filled the Palladium at Crown for the Victory Medal Night, which saw Thompson and Vargas both collect their first Victory Medal, five days before the club’s opening AFC Champions League match.

Captain Kevin Muscat and A-League Goalkeeper of the Year Michael Theoklitos were joint runners-up in the vote count, which went down to Victory’s final match of the season against Sydney FC.

Thompson and Vargas further added to their trophy cabinets, with the former claiming the SEN Player of the Year and the latter receiving the Players’ Player of the Year award, proudly sponsored by Anthony and Diana Di Pietro.

Leigh Broxham collected both the Clubman of the Year, proudly sponsored by Fletcher Foods, and The Age Young Player of the Year, while Danny Allsopp took home the club’s Golden Boot.

"What a great night it is for Melbourne Victory and two really deserving winners, Archie Thompson and Rodrigo Vargas," Victory coach Ernie Merrick said.

"They’ve both had an outstanding year and played exciting football at the both ends of the ground. But more than that, they’ve been leaders as well as very consistent performers.

"Archie’s one of the most talented and exciting strikers in the A-League and this award recognises that fact.

"I think Archie’s got more to give and he will have a tremendous impact during the AFC Champions League.

"With Rodrigo, what you see is what you get, he’s a skillful, uncompromising defender who is super reliable and gives 100 per cent every game.

"This is Rodrigo’s second year with the club and he seems to get better and better.

"He’s maturing with age and he’s a great example to some of the younger players that you can make that step from a young NSL player, to a regular Victorian Premier League player and then jump straight into the A-league and be one of the top players.

"Both of them are looking forward to the AFC Champions League and they’re a major asset to our team.

"The AFC Champions League gives them an opportunity to fully showcase their skills and hopefully they will lead the team into the Knockout Stage of the competition."
