The 32-year-old three-time FIFA World Player of the year is nearing a return to football following a career-threatening knee injury.

Ronaldo sustained the injury eight months ago while playing for AC Milan and has been linked with various clubs since becoming a free agent in the summer.

According to some reports, Siena president Giovanni Lombardi Stronati is the latest to show interest in the 2002 World Cup winner.

But the player's agent, Fabiano Farah, told O Globo Ronaldo will not be playing for them in 2009.

"There is no chance of Ronaldo signing for Siena," Farah said.

"All the teams would love to have such an important name like Ronaldo in their squad. We appreciate the interest.

"However, with all due respect to Siena, Ronaldo, after a nine-month fight for fitness, shouldn't play for a team who are fighting to avoid relegation."

Farah added that Ronaldo is only thinking about his return to the pitch in the United Nations' Match Against Poverty on November 17 in Fes, where he will face a team led by Zinedine Zidane.

"The game against Zidane will mean the return of Ronaldo to the field," Farah added. "It will be the first step towards his definitive return.

"After this match, we'll start thinking about the club where he will play in 2009."
