The 18-year-old was thrown into the deep end in round four after first-choice keeper Jess Vanstrattan went down with a season-ending knee injury.

He has kept 13 clean sheets and put in a dominant performance in the preliminary final, admitting he is pinching himself every day.

“I didn’t expect to be playing at all this year. I wake up every morning and keep pinching myself,” Ryan said.

“To be standing here tonight, it’s a dream come true.”

The Blacktown City junior admits there have been a couple of errors on the way but bouncing back has been a key.

“There have been a couple of little hiccups along the way but credit to myself and the coaching staff, I have been able to move on to bigger and better things and my reaction afterwards has been pretty sound,” Ryan said.

Ryan’s performance on Sunday was fantastic, including a double save moments after Adam Kwasnik had scored the opener for the Mariners

But the shot stopper was humble about the saves, happy he could help his team qualify for the grand final.

“I get taught to dive and then get up as quickly as you can,” he said.

“Fortunately, I was in the right place at the right time and helped our team qualify for the grand final on Sunday.”
