Sage revealed he had spent over an hour speaking with Fowler in England this week about the possibility of a move to the Glory and expects an answer from the 35-year-old striker by Wednesday.

"I think we've got the best chance. We're the first club to actually speak to him," Sage told the Perth Sunday Times.

Sydney FC, who have also been linked with Fowler, are yet to verbally contact the player.

Perth Glory skipper Jacob Burns, a former teammate of Fowler's at Leeds United, is expected to also speak with the Englishman about a move to West Australia.

Sage continued: "He's very interested, he's just got to make a decision with his family and whether he's going to come out to Australia to spend another year."

Fowler scored nine goals in 26 appearances for North Queensland Fury last season but was released from his contract due to the club's off-field issues.

Perth have secured 22 of their allowed 23-man roster for the 2010/2011 season and have one visa spot remaining.
