Newcastle face Beijing Guoan tonight in a must-win clash, looking to banish memories of their last Champions League outing, a 1-0 defeat by Nagoya Grampus.

Petrovski came off the bench in that match, earned his team a spot-kick, took on the responsibility of taking it but saw it saved.

In the aftermath of the defeat he was far from happy at suggestions the defeat could be laid squarely on his shoulders. He pointed out that far bigger names than himself had seen penalties saved.

His coach is also adamant that the striker's miss was not the reason for defeat and is backing him to bounce back.

"Sash has been great (since the Nagoya defeat) and he'll be looking forward to the next challenge. Of course it's disappointing when someone misses a penalty but he backed himself to score.

"It comes back to what I've stressed about people taking responsibility out there. Was that miss the reason we lost against Nagoya? No, we had 90 minutes to win that game," van Egmond told au.fourfourtwo.com.

While the quest for goals is likely to rest heavily on Petrovski's shoulders tonight, the Jets will be without Fabio Vignaroli.

The game will also be a 'farewell' for Adam Griffiths as he puts in a final appearance in a Jets shirt in Newcastle before moving on to Gold Coast United.
