SASHO Petrovski says Newcastle Jets have shown they are resilient enough to cope with the loss of key players with the Hunter outfit determined to keep piling up the victories.
Questions were asked when Newcastle lost both Michael Bridges (short term) and Fabio Vignaroli (out for the season). Would the wheels come off?
Petrovski believes the players have answered that question and admits that one person's misfortune is another footballer's opportunity.
The experienced striker crashed in a terrific winner for the Jets in their 3-2 win over North Queensland Fury on Sunday and hopes he has done enough to retain the shirt.
"With Fabio out and Bridgey out it's an opportunity for someone else to step in," he said today. "Whether it's myself or someone else who gets the opportunity, it's there to be taken. Go out and show it. Believe in yourself and do it for the team."
Petrovski is thrilled to be part of the mix as the A-League heads towards the business end of the campaign.
"It's a great time of year to be playing and being involved," he said.
Petrovski's winning goal came on the day of his 100th A-League outing but he said the points were the key to a happy day.
"It's nice to notch up a milestone and it's another highlight of my career and I was just very pleased the team were able to get the win and keep climbing the ladder," he added.
"The four wins we've clocked up, we're going to be trying to build on that and get as many wins as possible. In this league if you get on a good roll and good run, keep winning games you'll find yourself up there winning the league or the championship."
The Jets will look to extend their winning streak when they travel to face Perth Glory on Boxing Day.
