The Basel star is out of contract next June and he isn't ruling out a return home.

He could yet be tempted to remain in Switzerland but like many established Socceroos, he is tremendously impressed with the progress being made by the A-League.

He told goldcoast.com.au: ""I'd be very interested in coming to join the Coast. It's exciting that the A-League is expanding and I've got a connection with the Coast in that I own a couple of trotters (in south-east Queensland)," said Chipperfield.

"And my wife and family love the area. It's a team that looks like it has big ambitions and big backers and by all accounts they are going to be very competitive."

Paul Okon's presence as head coach at United certainly won't harm Gold Coast's chances of landing Chippers but any potential deal is still a long way off it seems.

"I feel I still have a lot left to offer and coming home is something I've thought about a lot.

"Right now I'm not sure if they'd (the Coast) want me. And, of course, if Basel offered me another deal, I'd be happy to look at that too," said Chipperfield.
