Crook quit Newcastle Jets last week to return to England to assist new boss Bryan Gunn.

Crook played for City for 11 years and made almost 150 appearances between 1986 and 1997.

He applied for the then vacant manager's post at the time Peter Grant was appointed in October 2006.

Crook told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I thought maybe I had missed the boat and it was never going to happen."

He said quitting the Jets and Australia had been a difficult thing to do but the pull of East Anglia was too strong to resist.

He said: "It was hard to leave Australia, it's become a home but both my sons were born in Norwich and the opportunity to come back was overwhelming."
