Eighteen-year-old Youth Team player Golec will start in central defence in the absence of injured Captain, Tony Popovic and suspended stopper, Iain Fyfe.

Far from being nervous, the former Sydney United player can’t wait to take on the Victory on their home turf.

Speaking after training today, he said: “I’m quite confident actually. There’s obviously going to be some nerves for the first 5 or 10 minutes of the game but after that I should be alright. I’ll take this opportunity with both hands and it should be a good game.”

If an A-League debut wasn't enough, his selection comes on the same day Sydney FC signed him up to a two-year deal, which will come into effect next season.

He said: “I’ve been working for this for quite a long time now. I remember three or four years ago watching A-League players and now all of a sudden I’m here. I’m quite pleased.”

Golec won’t be the only player getting an opportunity to shine in a Sydney shirt tomorrow night at the Telstra Dome.

After joining FC this week as a short-term injury replacement, 24-year-old full-back Beau Busch will also be thrown straight into the action against Melbourne.

“I do feel nervous, definitely but I’ll take that as a good sign that I’m ready to go,” said Busch. “If I wasn’t nervous I’d be worried.”

Kosmina isn’t worried about his new recruits handling the pressure, and believes they’ll rise to the big occasion.

The Sydney FC coach said: “You’ve got to look at it as a challenge. I think the players we’ve got coming in are up to the task, they’re hungry, they’re keen.

"Sometimes you need to be thrown in at the deep end and see if you sink or swim and I think these guys will swim comfortably.”

The Moore Park boss believes his side can bounce back from their last-start loss to Perth, despite having a poor record against Victory.

He said: “It’s always a special game against Melbourne. They’ve probably got the wood on Sydney at the Telstra Dome so maybe we can change things around.”
