He accepts there has been a lot of talk about his new club and the rivalry with Brisbane Roar. He doesn't really see a problem with it and if the end result is more bums on seats then he is happy.

"There's been a lot of talk about the first game (against Brisbane Roar). It's going to be a very good spectacle for both sets of fans but also for the whole country I guess," Smeltz told au.fourfourtwo.com. "We can''t wait to get out there and get it underway.

"I've gone to a new team, a team with ambition and obviously on the back of player of the season award, eyes are going to be on you but I've got faith in myself, I believe in my ability and most importantly I believe in the team. Collectively as a club we'll be okay."

Despite all the talk of private jets at United, Smeltz points out the club isn't at liberty to spend endless amounts in the pursuit of success.

"I think that side of it (the so-called riches) is possibly blown out of proportion a little bit," he said. "Everyone's under the same salary cap at the end of the day. Everyone can beat everyone on a given day."

The immediate challenge is trying to get a result against Brisbane Roar.

"As much as we can hype the game up it's going to drag  people along and get people taking about it," he said. "As for the players, we've done enough talking. Let's get out there.

"It's the opening game of the season. Every opening game is a bit special but it's not all about one game. All the games are just as important as each other."

Smeltz feels most of the A-League sides have bolstered their back lines in pre-season and that means strikers will have to be at their very best to gain their rewards.

He added: "It's another challenge and one I'm looking forward to."
