GOLD Coast United's billionare boss Clive Palmer has rubbished talk of star striker signing Shane Smeltz being snared by Turkish club Genclerbirligi.
The A-League new boys have called a press conference for tomorrow with the club promising 'a major announcement' as well as unveiling the club's colours for the season.
Palmer and coach Miron Bleiberg will discuss the inaugural squad, including the signing - yet to be officially confirmed by United - of the club’s inaugural marquee player Jason Culina.
While Culina will be the main talking point, Palmer and Bleiberg will almost certainly be forced to address the issue of striker Shane Smeltz.
The Wellington Phoenix striker has reportedly attracted the interest of Genclerbirligi but both Palmer and Bleiberg insist the player won't be going to Turkey.
Palmer told the Courier Mail: "Who cares if the Turks want him?.
"He has signed up with us. He's our player legally - end of story. He doesn't want to go to play in Turkey."
Bleiberg joked in the Gold Coast press: "They shouldn't upset Clive Palmer any further or he might decide to buy their club out."
Despite the club's inaugural campaign still several months away, Gold Coast have already recruited 18 members of their eventual 23-man squad with Smeltz, Adam Griffiths and Michael Thwaite among the high-profile names captured.
