A buyout clause in his and other key players' contracts would allow them to leave tomorrow if they wished if a matching offer were to coming from a club outside the A-League.

Yesterday, Gold Coast publicly watered down talk by coach Miron Bleiberg that star players may leave the club and would not be stopped from gaining a dream move to a bigger league.

After Saturday night's crushing win over North Queensland Fury - which saw Smeltz hit the back of the net four times - Bleiberg hinted that their prized hitman would not be held back from pursuing his overseas dream.

"We have an arrangement and when the right offer comes, we will congratulate him, he is 27 and we will not hold him back," Bleiberg said later.

The Kiwi goal-machine scored four goals in a 5-0 demolition of Fury to take his tally from two A-League games to five goals.

But yesterday club owner, billionaire Clive Palmer, moved swiftly to allay fears the club would lose Smeltz and other players by overruling his coach's appraisal.

"None of our contracted players are leaving and no further transfers during the current season will be considered for any amount of money," said Palmer.

"Any offers we receive will be rejected out of hand. The final decision on the acquisition or transfer of any players rests with the Board of Directors at Gold Coast United."

However, we understand Smeltz has the $300,000 buyout clause that would allow him to move if an offer came in during any of the mandated transfer windows and he wanted to leave.

It's also understood he is not the only player with a buyout clause in the star-studded United line-up.

The club sold defensive rock Adam Griffiths to Saudi club Al-Shabab for $1.4 million last week after just one game for the A-League leaders.

The Socceroo is set to make his debut this weekend in the opening round of the Saudi league.

Gold Coast United today declined to respond to questions about Smeltz's buyout clause.
