GOLD Coast United's sought-after New Zealand international striker Shane Smeltz says his future beyond this season is undecided but admits he is keen to stay in the A-League.
Smeltz, 29, is contracted with Gold Coast until the end of this season after re-joining the club in January after a failed five-month spell at Turkish Super Lig outfit Genclerbirligi.
The 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 A-League Golden Boot winner, who scored against Italy at the 2010 World Cup, is being chased by a host of clubs for next season, including Perth Glory.
"You never say never," Smeltz told thewest.com.au. "I've spoken to other clubs as well, including Gold Coast.
"In terms of my future, it's undecided. I'll do the right thing by Gold Coast and perform as well as I can towards the end of the season and then make a decision."
Smeltz has endured a difficult six months chasing a career abroad, after controversially rejecting a move to Shandong Luneng after passing a medical at the Chinese club, along with his disappointing stint in Turkey. He now admits he's keen to remain in Australia.
"More than likely, I'll stay in the A-League now," he said. "I enjoy myself here and I've got family to think about as well.
"I wouldn't discourage anyone else from going overseas but I see myself in the A-League. That's the plan at this stage."
Former Wellington Phoenix man Smeltz, who also won the 2008/2009 Johnny Warren medal, boasts an incredible A-League record having scored 43 goals in 67 matches.
