Smith had blasted the decision not to award his side a freekick for Jamie Coyne being bundled off the ball.

It appeared he had got away with the remarks - but the FFA this evening confirmed he had been sanctioned with an undisclosed fine.

Ironically, the press release revealing the fine was sent out minutes before FFA CEO Ben Buckley appeared in an interview on Fox Sports' Total Sports.

He was challenged by Andy Harper about why Smith had been allowed to get away with the remarks while Sydney coach Branko Culina had been fined for his comments a week earlier.

Buckley confirmed Smith had indeed been fined and said the FFA would not stand for any questioning of referees or their decisions.

A statement from the FFA added: "Perth Glory Head Coach Ron Smith has been fined for breaching the Hyundai A-League Code of Conduct.

"The undisclosed fine is in relation to disparaging remarks that Ron Smith made regarding the performance of the match officials."
