BRISBANE Roar winger Tommy Oar is confident he will be ready for the new A-League season despite returning from international duty with an injury which will see him sidelined for a month.
The talented teen returned from the Netherlands last week where he played in two tournaments with the Young Socceroos, before succumbing to a quadriceps tear in the second last match of the tour.
However Oar, 17, said the setback could have come at worse time with the A-League still two months away.
"It's always disappointing being injured but I'm fairly upbeat about it," he said. "It's probably come at a good time, pre-season, rather than having it during the season.
"So as much as there's a bad side to it, there's also a good side to it."
The FIFA U20 World Cup is also on the horizon, but Oar said he would be "well and truly" fit in time to travel to the Egypt-hosted tournament, which starts in late September.
"Tony Ganter and the staff here at the Roar have a good record with getting people back quickly and they're pretty confident of getting me right even before the A-League season starts," he said.
If fit, Oar looks an almost certain inclusion to travel to Egypt, having impressed in the Terborg Toernooi and the International Cor Groenewegen Tournament which included a mix of European club teams and international youth teams.
Australia won the latter competition, with fellow Brisbane players Isaka Cernak, Luke DeVere, Mitch Nichols and Luke Brattan all playing a big role.
"It was a pretty fun tournament and Holland's a pretty fun place to go to," Oar said. "It was interesting to see where people my age are at in Europe and to see what the standard is like."
The Young Socceroos will continue their preparation with a trip to Venezuela next month, with all players desperate to book their ticket for Egypt.
Although Oar looks unlikely to take part, he remained confident Young Socceroos coach Jan Versleijen would recall him for the World Cup.
"It's out of my hands for now but I'm pretty happy with how I played the last few tours so I just have to take confidence from that," he said.
Meanwhile, fellow left-winger Michael Zullo is also facing up to a month out, having sustained a shoulder injury in last week's Roar Roadshow at Brisbane Olympic.
