The new 3500 seat stand opens in June boosting the venue to three stands with the hill on the eastern side remaining at the picturesque ground next to Wollongong beach.

Last season, Sydney FC NYL and W-League games were played at WIN and now with the redevelopment complete, FSC believe the logical next step is an A-League match.

“We’ve been very encouraged by the recent comments by [A-League boss] Lyall Gorman about regional representation,” Football South Coast Chairman Eddy de Gabriele told au.fourfourtwo.com.

“Western Sydney, why wouldn’t you expand there? But we are building a strong case all the time on the south coast, and the stadium is key for us.

“It’s a beautiful location for fans to come down for the weekend and see a game.”

South Coast Football are continuing to look at ways of engaging with the A-League and see the stadium as a key component.

FSC is negotiating with Sydney FC for a game at WIN - whether the match is a pre-season game or an actual A-League clash remains to be seen.

However, with the stadium redevelopment now complete and the surface one of the best in the country they've built a strong case - and it's not just the men.

“Our W-League bid is very, very strong,” he added, saying local club Illawarra Stingrays could be rebadged South Coast Stingrays and ready as early as next season in the W-League.

FSC have unified the many local associations under the one umbrella bringing together a large number of players for the first time.

“When you unify football on the south coast, you unify the 20,000 or so players,” De Gabriele said.

At the same time, the FSC board featuress a wide range of football representatives together with independents from the community with business backgrounds.

De Gabriele admitted funding was still a key issue for south coast’s A-League bid but refused to criticize the FFA for the botched North Queensland Fury expansion plan which was canned after two seasons.

He added: “At that point in time we felt that our model was the way to go but you it’s very easy to be a visionary after the fact.”
