Guy Mosel, FHM editor, said he hoped the shoot would help pique interest in the A-League finals with a segment of the marketplace that may not be aware of the A-League.

“The shoot began life as a simple idea about back-to-work suiting but was changed slightly to incorporate a football theme," he said.

"When we learned we were able to get the A-League players on board, we tweaked the idea a little to incorporate a slightly old-fashioned, European-football feel, complete with a battered, stitched-leather ball and a slightly sepia colour treatment,” Mosel said.

Other players who suited up in the spread include Perth Glory’s Dutchman Victor Sikora, Sydney FC’s Brendan Gan and the ever-popular Pedj Bojic from Central Coast.

“I always get a bit nervous when we ask footballers to be models,” added Mosel.“Standing in front of a camera in a studio full of people can be more daunting than lining up for a spot kick in a penalty shoot-out.

“But to their credit, our A-Leaguers did a bang-up job.”

The FHM feature follows last month’s raunchy photo-shoot in popular young women’s magazine CLEO. It featured the likes of Bojic, Tarek Elrich, Fabian Barbiero and Eric Paartalu.

The shoots are all part of a push by FFA in conjunction with Frank PR to broaden the competition's appeal outside traditional sports media in a new and fun way.
